IUI 2025 Workshop on
Strengthening Engineering Psychology
for Human-AI Interactions (STEP-HAI)
March 24, 2025
About this Workshop
Strengthening Engineering Psychology for Human-AI Interactions" (STEP-HAI) workshop brings together researchers and practitioners to enhance the theoretical foundations of human-AI interactions (HAI) that are rooted in engineering and cognitive psychology. As we increasingly interact with intelligent systems, a deep understanding of human cognition is essential to designing effective, efficient, and trusted AI. Despite growing empirical HAI research, theoretical frameworks require further validation and refinement. This workshop invites submissions on foundational theory, experimental work on user interfaces, and insights on strengthening psychology principles in HAI, including information processing, AI-assisted decision-making, and user perceptions for human-centered AI design.
Call for Contribution
We invite submissions of short papers (max. six pages, including figures, tables, proofs, appendixes, acknowledgments, and any content except references) that showcase approaches to evaluating human-AI interactions. We are looking for contributions in the following areas:

Theory-Driven Contributions

Papers that provide a theoretical framework or conceptual model for understanding and assessing human-AI interactions.

Empirical and Experimental Studies

Work that evaluates human-AI interactions through empirical data or experimental methods, offering insights into usability, trust, user satisfaction, or other critical dimensions.

Position / White Papers

Papers that present strategic perspectives, critically discuss the status quo of HAI work, or propose future directions for measuring and evaluating human-AI interactions, with arguments to strengthen and evolve current practices.

We plan to make the accepted contributions available via the after the conference so that they can be cited and found via DOI. Use of the contributions and their content in other venues is possible without restriction.
